In the following section, we will meet some of the outstanding students with amazing success that comes from the family of our American Intercon School (AIS).

Chhim Krouch

outh is an age full of energy and courage, especially they are the core force for participating in all activities in society as well as national development. Youth makes up about 50% of the total population of the young people in Cambodia. Chhim Krouch is an AIS student studying in Grade 12A in the academic year 2018-2019. He was born in a wealthy family in Phnom Penh. His guardians have spent a lot of resources to support his child’s education. For this year, he has to take the high school diploma exam. All the students are so busy with their study because they have to work hard to prepare for the exam.

Unlike other students, what made Chhim different was that he spent a lot of time outside of school helping out in various schools and social activities. School work includes running a study club every Saturday and Sunday, coordinating school programs (youth volunteering), and many other charitable activities. Extracurricular activities include planting trees, painting school, etc. As a results, he still achieves good results. More remoarkbly, they have engaged in such activities since 10th grade. Here are the methods as well as sharing experiences that keep them strong. As for Krouch, he said, “Every day, everyone has about 16 to 17 hours of free time to sleep”. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the time clearly and wisely (study time, rest time, social work). For study, he mentioned that we have to control your emotions by listening to the teacher in the classroom, as well as taking notes and answering questions during each session. The method at home is to identify which subjects are clear and which are not clear to easily strengthen those weaknesses. On the other hand, every morning he regularly reviews lessons at home. In addition, one of his strengths is that he always takes note for lessons or exercises that he can do or understand to explain them to his friends and strengthen his own ability. He has a clear plan for managing study time and social work. For social work, he said that, he usually takes time off on weekends. He sometimes said that the work could extend a level of knowledge that he had never encountered in a lesson. The jobs in which he has participated include youth volunteering, school painting, and organizing school events and opening and closing of school year. Even though this young man is busy and has virtually no free time, his education does not decline, he still holds the A grade every month. It is not a coincidence that taking this course at AIS is a matter of physical and mental effort. He revealed the following tips of his studies that allow him to thrive despite the busy social work as follows:

  • Have a good study schedule at home in line with the school schedule so that you have to review the lessons learned at home as well.
  • Try to find time to research your lessons at home, rather than going outside for extra classes.
  • Do as many real science exercises as possible.
  • Get enough rest and eat a regular, hygienic and nutritious meal.
  • Try to get up in the morning to review the lesson, because the morning is a time when the brain is clear and easy to memorize.
  • Come to class regularly, on time and in class to pay full attention in class through using So: Listening, Chi: Thinking, Bo: Asking, Li: Note-taking effectively.

Being born as a human is a great blessing because we can do what we want to do for ourselves, our families as well as our society. Like the young man above, he is only in the 12th grade, but he is growing towards model youth both academically and socially. Like what he mentioned above. What about you? Are you ready?

Lichin Chea

I am 15 years old and currently a 10th grade student of American Intercon School, Mao Tse Tung Campus

By having natural talent, and motivated by family and friends around me, especially as a personal hobby, I have developed a love and interest in Bokator martial arts, which is now almost a disappeared sport due to lack of interest and support.

For me, Bokator martial art is a sport that I love and want to practice, and learn. Because of my love and desire to learn, fortunately, American Intercon School offers Bokator training, so I decided to enroll in this school. I lovingly practiced this sport at the age of 13 in 2017 during my 9th grade. Even though I was in the year to prepare for the lower secondary school diploma exam, I did struggle to spend my time learning and practicing this sport.
The three main factors that make me want to learn more such as:

    1. I want to keep myself physically fit and healthy

    2. I want to have self-defense

    3. I want to show and inspire this martial art again so that the next generation in my country and other nations know about it.

Because of this willingness and the encouragement from myself, my family, school, and friends, I set the goal in order to train myself to have the opportunity to compete in various programs at school and at the national level. Futhermore, my ambition is to participate in international competitions. If I am given the opportunity, it will be the best opportunity for me to make Bokator known to the world.

It happened as what I had planned, the opportunity came. National Sports Federation announced a competition to select representatives for the national team, so I did not waste time. I entered this Bokator competition on December 9, 2018.

My dream finnaly arrives. Through this tough national competition, I did well which made me feel so proud of being able to compete with players from many other institutions. My efforts were paid off and I received the first rank. This is the first achievement in my sporting life, and also the first step in the long-term of my future sport life which is a direction to help revive up this sport. This sport is also a legacy for my nation.

since I was young. As a Bokator trainee, when taking a break from school, I always practice on my own and with older students. It is also a good habit of relaxation.

I was born in 2003, Kampong Cham province and came to study in Phnom Penh in 2013 with the care of my aunt and grandparents. From 2014 to 2015, I joined the basketball training class and also entered a competition and won the first place.

Later, I stopped training because of my studies and some family problems. In 2017, I got the information that the school opened a Bokator class, so I decided to join because of my love of martial arts from an early age. Since then, I have also continued to be trained by Bokator teacher and senior students.

Then I participated in the school competition, winning the first place. Despite winning the first place, I never stopped improving myself, and I still tried to train harder in order to enter the national competition. I also won the third place of Soul Master Topic of Bokator martial art. Considering as a favorite sport and loving the martial art with hard training, it did not happen to affect my studies. Since I started to study at the American Intercon School (AIS) with a clear education system, discipline and good quality, I have received and found a good way to study and train Bokator to achieve the goal of becoming a doctor and a good athlete. These achievements come from the encouragement from the school, family, teachers, and friends, especially myself who do not give up and train more because of the love of this traditional martial arts. This encouragement and motivation make me happy, confident in every competition and powerful to train Bokator and study as well.
